A MAN in a serious crash on the highway near Edmonton was taken to hospital and was treated for head injuries, the Edmonton Police Service said on Friday.
A woman was also taken to the hospital with serious injuries, police said in a statement.
No arrests have been made.
A witness told CTV News Edmonton that the truck was stopped at a stop sign at the intersection of 10th Avenue S.W. and Alberta Street NW.
The woman, who was wearing a black tank top and black pants, was thrown from the truck and hit a tree, said Const.
Stewart said it appears the truck driver is facing charges.
Edmonton police have received numerous calls about a truck going at high speeds and people being thrown from cars.
Stewart told Ctv Edmonton that investigators are trying to determine if there were any other vehicles involved in the crash.
A total of 11 vehicles were involved in a collision near the intersection.
The driver of a semi-truck and a woman were in the truck when it hit the tree, police say.
“It appears the semi-trailer driver and a female were thrown from their vehicle and hit the vehicle on the side of the road,” said Stewart.
“The semi-trader was in the vehicle when it went into the ditch.”
The semi-driver was uninjured.
No charges have been laid.
A driver was arrested and released from custody on Friday morning.
