More than thinking about how I should put all my thoughts together into a well-defined blog post, phrasing out the title of the post seemed like a challenge. Because regarding someone as a failure is nothing but a hoax. People fail in different aspects from petty little things to life turning commitments. Be it the initial stage where you do not succeed in achieving the anticipated CGPA or pass percentage in your examinations, screwing up job interviews or entrances or quitting from your seemingly ‘only’ chance in anything.
All these might seem to make you a failure. Ironically, failure is contemplated as a noun. In reality, it’s a verb. A person can never be a failure. He just fails. In turn, this gives him room for new opportunities to lay hands on and makes him ready for the next. So that is why I’ve inserted an ‘if’ in the title, because without ‘if’, “You are a failure” is just a deception.
“I have not failed, I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work”- Thomas Edison
Let me quote a few facts about the lives of a few highly successful people.
- Thomas Edison’s teachers said he was “too stupid to learn anything”. He was fired from his first two jobs for being “non-productive.”
- When Walt Disney approached a newspaper editor for a job, he told Walt that he ‘lacked imagination and had no good ideas’.
- J.K Rowling was depressed, divorced and broke. She sent her Harry Potter manuscript to 12 different publishers and got it rejected.
- And the list continues
Every one of us has read about, admired or got benefitted by the fruits of their works. All these highly influential people have failed in their trials. But what made them so popular that we are discussing their success story? They regarded failure as a mere “trial”. As I said, if they considered them a failure for just one failed attempt and didn’t try anymore, we would never have this bulb glowing above, neither the laptop or phone you’re presently working on. We wouldn’t even have had the infamous Harry Potter series that we go bonkers upon.
The endless list of opportunities for a common ‘you’
Failure to anyone is always accompanied by fear. It’s the fear of losing that adds on and screws up your life. Never let yourself down when you feel you cannot do it anymore. Let us suppose I got into engineering because I had no clue where else to go. Or that I later realized that Chemical Engineering is not my cup of tea. That’s okay. Life is a power-packed box of opportunities for people “who can utilize”. Now that I’m in the middle of something and fear to quit,
- I always have the choice to pursue something after finishing what I started. This doesn’t lower my confidence as I have a degree which is an assurance while I pursue the next.
- I can also learn a course of my interest in parallel to the present ones.
It’s not only about having opportunities in the initial stages. There is always a plan B to everything. If you don’t like the job you’re doing now, you can always find an alternative to it. For the assurance of something in hand always, gain all the necessary basic prerequisites for the job you’re interested in while you’re working on your job presently. When you’re ready, apply for multiple and why wouldn’t at least one get back to you.
What failure should mean to you
Talking of examples, there are a lot of ways in which you can fix things. The only sutra that applies to every one of the above is that you should regard failure as just your first trial. Because it’s only when you fail that you will try something new- the next. They say, “You learn from your experiences”. Failure is one experience which makes you learn how ‘not to fail’ the next. Also, failure is the only way that will give room for new opportunities.
Thinking of how many times you can fail- The more times you fail, the more proximity to success. It’s not the end of the world. If you fail, go for the next. Reminding again, life is full of opportunities. Try and try till you figure out that it’s yours. It’s okay if people are ahead of you. Everyone gets f*cked up sooner or later. Try again because, “Better late than never”.
What you should do!
Life is itself an opportunity for opportunities. Why define your life a failure of failed attempts! Demotivation and depression might knock you down, but never let your subconscious fade away with them. Have faith and confidence in you. There is nothing a man can do. He has initially walked on the moon and is now planning to live on it. Some other is planning to build an artificial moon to drive God crazy. Who knows what you can do! Every thought and action is interlinked. Do not let societal pressure lower your spirits. Peer pressure should not overrun you. Do not get carried away by any negative impressions. Believe in you. Overcome challenges. And not to forget the four important requisites – More positivity, high confidence, enormous patience, and undying consistency will lead you to success.
Looking forward to a “successful you”. 🙂
